Vinataxi’s general director,
Chia Chuen Huei, spoke with Vietnam Economic News’ Cao Son
· What
are advantages and disadvantages for Vinataxi in being the
only foreign invested taxi service provider in Vietnam?
Whether we are a joint venture company or a local company,
basically we enjoy the same incentives and conditions. We
are operating in a very fair business environment. We do
not get less or more than our competitors. The competition
in taxi service business is very keen at the moment with
the participation of many players, including famous
brands, new brand and illegal ones. The recently
implemented regulation concerning fees for parking in the
center of HCMC has added in more difficulties for taxi
industry. However, we consider this is part of daily
business that we have to manage.
· Are
you happy with the results ComfortDelGro Corporation has
gained in Vietnam from Vinataxi joint venture?
We decided to invest in Vietnam because we see that
Vietnam is the next growing economy (after China), and a
very potential destination for us to provide our land
transport service. What we can bring into Vietnam with our
investment is a different experience in taxi service for
the people, a service with better value and worth money.
Of course, I am not yet satisfied with our achievements
because I think there is a lot of room for us to improve
and to provide better service. We are here to stay and
will continue to develop as long as the market still
requires us to do so.
· Do
you find any challenges in working with your Vietnamese
staff?
Vietnamese staff are hard-working,
dedicated and willing to learn. Vietnam has a young
population, so most of our staff are young. For me
adapting to working with new and young staff in this
country has been an opportunity. We have spent time to
understand the cultural aspect and our way of thinking,
and I am sure we have done quite well in this area. We
have also received strong support from the management from
Singapore and the local partner. |
